Thirty people will spend the day on three of Auckland Council's hardest problems, working with real Council data and the teams who own them. This is where they show what they built, pitching to Mayor Wayne Brown and a judging panel. The closing event of Auckland Startup Week 2026.
Thirty people will spend Friday working on three of Auckland Council's hardest problems: transport, waste, and stormwater and water quality. They get real Council data and the Council teams who own the problems, and they hand in their code at 5pm.
Every team will pitch what they built, with Mayor Wayne Brown and a judging panel deciding on the night.
No team will have had more than seven hours, so expect prototypes and proofs of concept rather than finished products.
Anyone can come. You do not need to have been at the hackathon.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown was born and raised in Auckland, where he was educated at Auckland Grammar and obtained a civil engineering degree from the University of Auckland. He is a qualified engineer and businessman with an extensive background in infrastructure and construction.
In 2025, Aucklanders returned Mayor Wayne Brown to office to finish the fix on Auckland's physical resilience, ensuring our infrastructure and landscapes are ready for tomorrow. He is also putting a sharper focus on strengthening the future financial resilience of this gorgeous city of ours, driven by a vision for an efficient, green city that is open for business.
